This moth is usually considered to be a migrant from the continent though in recent years it seems to have become established on the south coast.

Mainly July to October.

On the continent, the larval foodplants include evergreen oak amongst others.

This moth is usually considered to be a migrant from the continent though in recent years it seems to have become established on the south coast. The species was first recorded in Britain in 1946, and most subsequent records have been along the south coast of England, although some have turned up inland and further north. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as a migrant.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland, the Edith Weston specimen of 23rd September 2006 was the first record of this species in VC55.  L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
