A large Bembidion, 5 to 6 mm. It has dark brown elytra with various lighter markings usually after the middle, although these may be obscure or missing.

Marshes and well vegetated water margins. Also in flood refuse, on gravel bars and in mud.

All year round peaking April to July.

Widespread and fairly frequent in England and Wales. Not well recorded in Scotland.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 407 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
