3.5-4mm. As with other species in the Triozidae family, it has pointed forewings and with and the three main veins joining together. Adults have a characteristic reddish colour that darkens as it matures and the underside of the abdomen is pale.

Very similar to the very common Trioza urticae but distinguished by having spinules over the entire wing surface (a microscope is needed to see this) and also have just 2+1 dark spines at the tip of the hind tibia.

Found on Salix species. Adults overwinter on conifers.
