1.5-2mm. A very small fly with a shining black upper half and a white bar across the lower face. See ID guidance below.

Your specimen should have all of these features:

• Vein cu curved
• White bar on lower face
• Front and mesonotum black, gena yellow

Adults overwinter in evergreen vegetation such as Ivy.

Common and widespread.

Probably common but under-recorded.
