Description

A small black rove beetle with studded holes on both the short elytra and thorax area.

Habitat

Able to adapt to a wide range of environmental conditions and might be found in all kinds of decaying matter, waterside mud and leaf litter.

When to see it

All year round but most records seem to indicate the best time to find this species is March and April.

UK Status

Fairly frequent and widespread in Britain.

VC55 Status

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 376 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
