Description
There are four species of the round fungus beetle Anisotoma, but this is the only one with the orange markings, the others being entirely dark and difficult to tell apart.
Habitat
Woodland especially areas with fallen trees and dead wood.
When to see it
All year round.
Life History
They are known to feed on slime moulds, like many other species in the family.
UK Status
Fairly widespread and quite common in most of England and Wales, fewer records from Scotland.
VC55 Status
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 23 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
