Cap is variable, usually grey/grey-brown with fragment of veil adhering to the cap.  The stem is white with a ring that is striate on its upper surface, and is scaly beneath the ring. The stem base is swollen and does not retain remnants of the volva.  Flesh does not discolor on bruising.

The Blusher can look very similar but stains reddish when bruised
