Robust ornamental plants up to 45 cm tall, grown for their large white, recurved spathe and broadly lanceolate leaves. These can be grown from dry tubers but require moisture.

Occasionally occurs as a discarded casual in Britain. Records seem to come mainly from the south of Britain and some coastal locations.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
