Length 12 to 18 mm. A fairly large and attractive caddisfly with a mottled black and white appearance and banded legs.

Adults in high summer and sometimes attracted to light.

Larvae are tube case makers and can be found in ponds and lakes.

Fairly frequent and widely distributed in Britain.

Only a handful of records from Leicestershire and Rutland in the last 30 years, but it is probably under recorded.
