The mite Aculus craspedobius causes a short, twisted inrolling gall on the edge of the leaves of Salix alba, Salix fragilis and their hybrids.  It is an open, not closed gall.

Aculus magnirostris on willows; Rabdophaga marginemtorquens on osier or R clusilia on Salix alba also cause leaf rolls, which are not hairy inside (not more so than host plant is hairy)

Aculus tetanothrix can cause small closed galls on leaf edges of willows

Status in Britain is difficult to determine due to lack of records.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
