Length 7.5 to 10 mm. This rove beetle has quite a distinctive combination of bi-coloured elytra and a distinctively shaped thorax with very sharp anterior angles.

Often found in damp areas or close to water’s edge.

Can be encountered in most months, but peak time is April and May.

Most records come from the south-east of England and The Midlands.

Infrequently recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
