Seifertia azaleae is an ascomycete fungus infecting azaleas and rhododendrons. Buds and sometimes leaves appeared covered in erect, black "hairs", several millimetres long, which are in fact bundles of hyphae carrying a tuft of chains of conidia (spores). The fungus is believed to penetrate the plant via wounds made by the Rhododendron Leafhopper, Graphocephala fennahi.
