A small, solitary wasp (BL 5-7mm) with an elongated abdomen and a long petiole.  The hind tibia are slightly swollen and are whitish, black and reddish-brown.

The tip of the abdomen of the female is red.

Hedgerows, gardens and open woodlands where they nest in stems, including bramble. They are predominantly recorded from areas near to water.

From late April into September

Fairly common and widespread in England and Wales.

Uncommon or under-recorded.
