This species can be found in both asexual and sexual forms.  The asexual stage forms whitish or yellowish-brown powderpuff-like cushions that disintegrate into brown conidia.  Occasionally the poroid sexual state is present at the base, with rounded whitish pores at 2 - 4 per mm..

Old asexual specimens can look like slime moulds, especially Reticularia

Photograph sexual and asexual states, if present; note host plant and substrate.  

Spruce wood and needle debris, rarely other conifers

Autumn to winter.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
