6-7mm. Generally all black but the male has pale, usually orange, sides to the abdomen. The legs have black femora, white tibiae (with brown at the apex) and brown tarsi. The larvae feed on English and Sessile Oak and have long branched bristles.These bristles are the longest of the three Periclista species and have branches shorter than the stems.
