This is a small 6 - 8 mm click beetle that is uniformly grey/black in colour and metallic in appearance with a fine covering of hairs.

Well wooded areas. Often in low foliage or the vegetation beneath.

All year round with new adults emerging in May and June.

The larvae feed on the roots of various grass species in woodlands and other well wooded areas.

Widespread and quite common in England up to Northumberland and the Solway Firth. Only a handful of Scottish records from East Lothian.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were a total of 16 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
