Wing length 4-5.5mm. This small bee is generally dark with relatively few pale hairs.

• wing length 5-5.5mm (females), 4-5mm (males)
• apical depressions of tergites 2-4 virtually without punctures
• females have tergite 1 with punctures confined to the sides
• top of the propodeum rugose over most of the surface

Open woodland and wooded brownfield sites.

Widespread and reasonably common in England and Wales up to the Midlands.
