Adult weevils are oval shaped, 5 to 10mm long. Wing covers are slightly pock-marked with greyish-white tufts of hair. Their rostrum is long and narrow. 

Unless identified by a recognised expert, good photos are required that show the key ID features. Also state the beetle's size in the comments box. This is a rarely recorded species in VC55 so ideally a specimen should be retained in case confirmation is required.

Scrub and waste areas where thistles occur.

Most likely to be encountered during the summer months.

It feeds primarily on the floral buds of various thistles, with the larvae stage being the most destructive to them.

Mainly recorded in south-west England and in Wales.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
