Length about 7 mm. The head, thorax, abdomen and legs are all orange, but there is blackish marking at the ‘waist’ between the thorax and abdomen which give the appearance of a black band. The wings have an orange stigma.

Found in areas where Aspen is present.

Best in May and June.

The green larvae make large holes in the middle of Aspen leaves.

It seems to be a very uncommon species with only a few records showing on the NBN map for Britain. Classed as nationally rare.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland. The specimen taken at Fosse Meadows on 30th April 2014 is the first record of this species in VC55.
