Length about 2 mm. Acalytpa species are very small lacebugs. They are usually brachypterous, appearing rather oval in shape. The 4th antennal segment is wider than the 3rd and the head bears two frontal processes (small projections arising between the antennae). A. parvula has three keels on the pronotum and the 3rd antennal segment is thickened at the base. The macropterous form is frequent.

Can only be identified by examination of internal genital structure. 

Detailed examination of the specimen is needed to identify the species.

Associated with moss. Particularly amongst short moss on dry soils.

Adults can be found throughout the year - this species overwinters as an adult.

The commonest member of the genus, it can be found throughout Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
