Abies procera is a vigorous evergreen conifer forming a large tree with broadly conical crown and upcurved blue-green needles. Cones large, deep purple-brown when young.

Many other Abies species are grown in parks, gardens and Christmas tree plantations.  Similar to other Pinaceae with needles borne singly, but Abies have sessile leaves on raised 'cushions', and cones that fall apart when mature.

Either obtain confirmation from a County Recorder before submitting a record, or submit detailed images showing key features.  We recommend that you take and retain a specimen; the County Recorder may wish to see this for confirmation.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
