With pinkish or variegated leaves (an ornamental escape from gardens or newly planted ponds).  The 'Flamingo' variety has leaves with colourful pink edges.  Grows to about 1 metre in height, with fibrous roots. The flowers have 5 white petals and 5 prominent stamens and are borne in umbels; at least some are leaf-opposed, as well as terminal. The leaves are aromatic, glabrous, and have a sheath covering the stem. The leaflets are divided into lobes and toothed. The stems are hollow.

Status in Britain remains unclear at present; it is mentioned in Stace (4th edition) but does not appear in keys or have a full description.

Rare or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire, and does not appear in the current checklist (Jeeves 2011).
