Wingspan about 14 mm.

Occupying woodland, parks and gardens.

The adult moths are on the wing in June and July. They can be found during the day by searching tree trunks but are more often encountered at light.

The larva feeds in a spinning on a leaf of Elm from which it is easily beaten. Pupa undescribed.

Found locally throughout most of the British Isles. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
