Disc or cup-shaped fungi, sometimes flattening and becoming irregular in shape as they mature; usually in shades of brown.  Sometimes a short stalk is present; other species are sessile.   Over 50 speceis are present in the UK, and identification to species is very difficult, involving micrscopic examination.  Spores can be smooth or ornamented.

Peziza are a difficult genus, and microscopic examination of spores is likely to be needed.to identify them.  Unless your record has been verified by an expert from a specimen please submit your record as genus Peziza.   Also photograph in habitat; note substrate.
