A vigorous, mat-forming plant with clusters of fleshy rosettes to 8 or 10cm in width, the leaves blue-green often suffused with reddish-purple. Starry purplish flowers are borne in flat cymes on stems to 20cm in height.

Dry places, walls, roof tops and sandy soils.

Flowering around July and August.

Evergreen perennial.

Widespread in England and Wales as a garden escape persisting in old walls etc.

Infrequently recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
