Medium to tall, leafy plant with bright-yellow blossoms that flower along erect, branching stalks.

Verbascum thapsus, and other Mulleins with white-woolly leaves and stems

This is a difficult genus, compounded by a large number of hybrids, and garden escapes that may become established briefly in the wild. 

Upper and middle stem leaves are decurrent.  The 3 upper stamens are reniform (kidney-shaped) and the two lower are decurrent; the style is spathulate.  

Careful examination of stamens and styles is needed. The County Recorder has asked for a specimen of this plant to be retained for verification

Waste places and disturbed ground.

Flowering from June to early September.

Widespread but infrequent in England.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
