Wingspan 14 to 16 mm.

The species has two or more probable overlapping broods and can be found on the wing any time between May and October.

Sheep's Sorrel (Rumex acetosa) is the larval foodplant, the larvae feeding amongst the roots or at the base of the stems in a silken gallery.

A fairly common and widespread species throughout most of the British Isles except the northern isles of Scotland. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
