Wingspan 21 to 24 mm.

Any habitat where the larval food plants are present.

May to June is the typical flight period for this species.

The larvae feed on Large-leaved Lime (Tilia platyphyllos) and Small-leaved Lime (Tilia cordata).

This species is a rare and local moth, occurring in a few localities throughout England and Wales. In some parts of eastern and south-east England, the population appears to be recovering or possibly reinforced by continental migrants. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was given Red Data Book 3 status.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
