A large, tough, variable species with campanulate or conical caps, sometimes radially wrinkled, greyish or buff, usually darkeri n centre, paler to margins.  Gills are whitish or becoming slightly pink with age; often with inter-connecting ridges.   Smell and taste farinaceous, large size (20-60mm).

This is a difficult speces to identify with certainty unless it has been microscopically examined from a specimen.  Expert verification prior to submssion to NatureSpot is recommended.  Also photograph from top down, in side view and from underneath to show gills and full length of stipe.  Note size, smell, taste habitat and substrate.
