Wingspan 11 to 13 mm. The adult is a buff or brown colour with a white costal streak and some other smaller white streaks.

Places where bird's-foot-trefoil species are plentiful.

It flies in June and July.

The larva feeds on bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus spp.), building a pistol-like case from silk and excised pieces of leaf.

A fairly common species occurring widely throughout the British Isles in a range of habitats where the foodplant is to be found. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

It appears to be uncommon or under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland, the Ullesthorpe specimen of 15th June 2015 is only the 4th record for VC55.  L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
