An earthstar with a stalk, striated marks or fine grooves around the central pore or beak, and a basal collar below the spore-ball.  The stalk may not be evident in young specimens.   The spore-sac has a whitish powdery coating that is easily rubbed off. 

Geastrum pectinatum (the Beaked Earthstar) lacks a basal collar.
