This is superficially similar in appearance to the more frequently encountered Cymbalaria muralis. The leaves are a darkish green and slightly hairy. The flowers are violet, with a yellowish patch on the lower lip, although a white form also exists. Flowers are borne on long, slightly hairy stalks.

Usually found as an escape from cultivation and favouring walls and stony places.

Flowers May to September.

Perennial.

Widespread but infrequent in England and Wales.

Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland. It was not recorded in the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire.
