Wingspan 32 to 37 mm. One of the more strongly marked Wainscots.

Occurs in a wide range of habitats.

The single generation flies in June and July, and is attracted to light.

The caterpillar feeds by night on various grasses, especially Cock's-foot.

This is a fairly common moth throughout most of Britain. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident).
