Wingspan 15-20 mm. One of the more distinctive of the Scopariinae, identifiable by its rather plain creamy or greyish central portion of the wing.

Various habitats

Flying June to August.

The larvae feed on mosses, usually on walls or tree-trunks.

Species has a distribution over most of Great Britain, and is fairly frequent nationally. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
