A roughly hairy, short to medium plant, stems branched and spreading, leafy to the top. Leaves oblong to elliptical, often broader towards the top, untoothed. Flowers large and daisy like, orange or deep golden yellow, 40 to 70 mm, solitary, rays broad and strap like. Achenes curved and beaked, boat shaped.

Roadside verges, waste places, disturbed and cultivated land.

May to October.

Annual.

Widespread in Britain mainly as a casual.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland, usually as a casual escape from cultivation and rarely persisting for long. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 23 of the 617 tetrads.
