Up to 40mm in length with 47-49 segments (males) or 49-51 (females). It is generally a chestnut brown all over and relatively stocky for geophilid. See ID guidance below.

There are several very similar species which can only be confidently identified using a key and a microscope or good lens.

Your specimen should have these features:

• up to 40mm
• chestnut brown in colour
• 47-51 pairs of legs
• 6-12 pores on last leg-bearing segment
• pegs and pits (carpophagous) on anterior sternites
• poison claw with smooth internal edge

All year round.

Common and widespread

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
