A slender stagshorn growing on rotting woood, usually bright yellow or orange yellow and unbranched and with acute or slightly blunt tips; occasionally paler yellow, or forked.  The texture is gelatinous and rubbery.    It may have darker tips, especially when drying.

Calocera viscosa is larger with multiple branches arising from a short basal 'trunk'. Calocera pallidospathulata is whitish or pale yellow with unbranched flattened fruitbodies with rounded or blunt tips.  There are several yellow clubs and corals in the Clavariaceae, but these are on soils usually in grasslands, and have brittle, not rubbery, fruitbodies; however, Clavulinopsis laeticolor occurs in woodland and has yellow unbranched clubs with rounded tips.
