A small milkcap, convex with an inrolled margin when young, becoming flatter or shallowly depressed later.  It may be finely hairy, or (at maturity) very finely scaly; usually pinkish buff but occasionally somewhat darker and browner and sometimes with vague concentric zones.  Milk white, unchanging, mild tasting.  It smells like the desiccated coconut used in confectionery.  

L mammosus is darker brown, larger, and under birch or pine, but also smell of coconut; we are not aware of any records in VC55
