Wingspan about 12 mm.

In common with a number other species using the same foodplants, is expanding its range due to their use in gardens.

The adults fly in July and August and are most often found in garden light-traps.

The larva feeds on juniper and cypress.

A species which appears to be on the increase. It is believed to have been introduced with the foodplant and first appeared in Essex in 1988. Since then there have been quite a number of records, mostly from the south-east of England. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as Nationally Scarce B.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland. The Whetstone record of 8th August 2013 is the first for VC55. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
