A tiny brown bark beetle (2.75 mm).

Hylesinus varius (formerly Leperisinus fraxini) and H. wachtli (formerly L.orni) can only be distinguished by microscopic examination. H. varius has coarse suberect setae on the sides of the elytra that are clearly visible from above and a more elongate antennal club.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used.
