The cap is grey-brown to dark grey and innately fibrillose, convex at first, becoming flatter with age, and with an umbo. The gills are numerous, whitish at first but maturing pinkish-brown.  The stem is whitish with darker fibrils.

This is uncommon or under-recorded in VC55, and we recommend that it is verified by an expert from a specimen before submission to Naturespot.  Microscopic examination may be needed.  Also photograph from top down, in side view and underneath to show gills; you must note habitat and substrate.

Grows on decaying conifer wood.

The Willesley Wood record of 7th October 2012 is believed to the first recent record for VC55 (Leicestershire and Rutland).
