Wingspan 30 to 35 mm.

Inhabiting woodland margins, hedgerows and chalk downs where Traveller’s-joy is present.

There are two generations of this moth during the year, flying in May and June and again in August.

The larval foodplant is Traveller's-joy.

It is distributed mainly in the south of England and south Wales. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

It appears to be uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland, where there are few records. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded).
