Length 1-2mm. Originally described from New Zealand in 1969, it is an introduced species that has rapidly spread across Great Britain. Brownish-black with a distinctive dark or black head; macropterous (long-winged) and brachypterous (short-winged); forewings often have a smoky colour and a bronze sheen.
