A resupinate fungus that sometimes forms brackets. The upper surface is brown and felty and the underside smooth and whitish, becoming darker as it ages.  It has a white margin.  The spores are small and warty. 

Stereum species are similar reflexed bracket fungi with a smooth fertile surface, but are tougher and have smooth spores.

Deciduous wood, typically Beech or Salix

Scarce - however one source believes it may be overlooked and more common that records suggest, due to confusion with other common species (see Leif Goodwin, englishfungi.org, accessed 14/12/2025)

Rare - The Quorn record is believed to be the first for VC55
