Wingspan about 12 mm.  One of several similar Coleophora species with streaked markings.

There are several similar Coleophora species with streaked markings, and for adults, examination of the genitalia is necessary to confirm the species.

Adult   Cased Larva

Adults should be identified by gen det.  If possible please provide a photograph to support your record.  Cased Larva should be reared through and adult confirmed by gen det as this species is rare in our area. Please also state the larval host plant.

Dry grassland.

Adults fly in June and July and are attracted to light.

The larvae feed on a number of plants in the Asteraceae family.

Widespread, but infrequent in Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as Nationally Scarce B.

Rare in VC55 (Leicestershire and Rutland).
