Wingspan 15-22mm. One of several Ephestia / Cadra species that are generally separable only by dissection.

Dissection required for all records.

Synanthropic, most likely to be found as a pest in warehouses and production facilities with stored nuts, seeds, fruit, cocoa etc. Rarely found in outdoor situations and light traps.

Generally found May to October, in two generations.

Adventive. Generally imported with foodstuffs.

Rare in Leicestershire and Rutland; the Whetstone record of 13th June 2025 is the first confirmed record for VC55. There is a record from 1997 of a larva found in chocolate bought in Glenfield, however it is unclear how the ID was confirmed from this.
