Wingspan between 11 and 15 mm. 

Because this species is rare in our area, your record should be supported by good quality image(s).  It would be best to retain the specimen until confirmed by the County Recorder.

Damp areas containing broad-leaved willow species such as Goat Willow, Grey Willow, Eared Willow and Creeping Willow.

Adults fly in June and July, especially in the afternoon and early evening.

The larva feeds internally in a slender Willow twig, causing a slight swelling or gall.

British records are widespread, but thinly scaterred in the southern half of Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as Nationally Scarce B.

Rare in VC55 (Leicestershire and Rutland) where it was not recorded until 2025.
