A reddish- or greyish-coloured aphid found on twigs of on a variety of Salix.  The siphunculi are slightly swollen, which distinguishes them from P. pilosum, with cylindrical siphunculi (B. Dransfield, pers. com. to P. Smith).

Several other species of aphid are found on willow; Pterocomma pilosum is closely related and very similar.
