3-4.5mm. This is our smallest blowfly and the only UK species in the genus. It is all-black with prominent black hairs on the rather thin abdomen. It has infuscated (darkened) wings along the leading edge. The medial vein bends up to almost touch the radial vein. See the checklist for full details.

Angioneura acerba and Angioneura cyrtoneurina are most similar.

• Black with black hairs
• Vein M with shallow bend then nearly reaching the radial vein
• Infuscated wings
• Scutellum with 2 pairs of strong marginal bristles (one stronger than the other)
• Prealar bristle much stronger than hind notopleural bristle

Found in a wide range of habitats, from woodland, chalk grassland, heath and dunes.
