Description
8.5-10mm. There are many black Dolerus sawflies that all need microscopic examination as identification is based on the detailed features such as the shape of the sawsheath in females.

Other black Dolerus species.
Habitat
Waste grassy places.
When to see it
From early Spring.
Life History
Their flight is slow and clumsy. Larvae feed on various grasses.
UK Status
Quite local in distribution in Britain, but possibly under recorded due to the difficulties of species identification.
